Join the De-ICE Action Network–which is evolving from the De-ICE Citizens Bank campaign– to send a message to Boston Dynamics to not trust ICE with their Spot Robot Dogs. 

Organizers will have flyers to hand out; the goal is to encourage passersby to contact Boston Dynamics CEO to keep Spot out of ICE’s hands (contact links will be on flyers).

Did you know? Waltham based Boston Dynamics plans to sign a $2 million contract for ICE to purchase Boston Dynamics’ Spot robotic dogs in support of ICE’s immigrant detention and deportation operations.

The issue: Boston Dynamics’ strict ethical principles state that its robot dogs must work “in service of human needs” and that government use of the four-legged devices must not involve “violation of privacy and civil right laws.” Yet ICE has repeatedly shown it is incapable of adhering to these principles as it detains and deports millions of immigrants while routinely violating their Constitutional rights. ICE has also resisted all efforts of accountability. Newly raised enforcement quotas, coupled with less well vetted and trained agents, further heightens potential abuses in using the robot dogs.

Boston Museum of Science has a hugely popular Spot Robot Dog exhibit. We want to sound the alarm about this potential contract with ICE and encourage museum visitors and passersby to join us in calling on Boston Dynamics to keep Spot out of ICE hands.

A core principle behind all De-ICE Action Network events is a commitment to nonviolent action. We will not block the sidewalk or interfere with anyone entering or exiting the museum. Treat everyone with respect and do not harass or film employees. We expect all participants to seek to de-escalate any potential confrontation with those who disagree with our values.
